The cleanse I’ve been putting off for two years

The first time I did a cleanse, I was in the middle of my health science studies.

Life was busy. I was running my first business, coaching women through detox programmes and hosting small groups for mums who wanted to invest in their wellbeing. My own focus at the time was preparing for conception.

Even with everything I was learning, decision overwhelm could easily have stopped me from following through.

I needed something easy, clear and organised: meals planned, shopping lists written, herbal support ordered. If I left every decision until the moment I needed to make it, the chances of finishing what I’d started were slim.

That experience taught me something I’ve carried into the programmes I’ve run since: preparation makes a commitment much easier to keep.

And before the shopping list comes an equally useful question.

What is your why?

My why has changed

Fast-forward through numerous group programmes, two children who are now teenagers, and a business that continues to evolve.

This time, my why is capacity.

I want more energy available for the things I care about. I want to rely less on caffeine to get moving or keep going. I want to invest in my health now, rather than continually postpone it until something demands my attention.

God knows, we could all use a little more mental space these days.

I want to wake up feeling less rusty. To feel more comfortable in my joints. To have a body that feels able to keep up with my spirit.

Those are my hopes going into this process—not results I can promise before I’ve experienced it.

The image that comes to mind is an oil change: deliberately setting aside time for maintenance. Of course, a body is far more complex than an engine. But that idea of caring for something before expecting more from it makes sense to me.

There is also something about making a defined commitment that changes my decisions.

The coffee becomes less negotiable. That tempting rosé at sunset gets less consideration. Meals, rest and space to digest become things I actively plan for.

For me, part of the appeal is stepping away from the habits I can otherwise keep negotiating with.

So, why a triple cleanse?

I know something about myself: I need to feel that I’m learning and evolving. A new challenge gives me energy and a reason to follow through.

And this particular challenge has been sitting in the back of my mind for two years.

I’ve saved endless pages of notes, programmes and protocols. Read, considered, collected—and still hadn’t actually begun.

There comes a point when another saved page is simply another saved page.

Now, in the middle of spring, I’ve decided to give this my attention.

A large part of my work involves taking complex information and making it understandable and manageable for my clients. This time, I’m bringing that same care to organising my own experience.

The three phases I’m exploring

I’m organising what I’m calling my “triple cleanse” around three areas, in this order:

  1. Heavy metals

  2. Mould-related concerns, fungi and Candida

  3. Parasites

These are the themes of the programme I’ve chosen to explore. They aren’t interchangeable conditions, and naming them here doesn’t establish that I have them—or that this sequence is a medically validated way to treat them.

As I document the process, I want to be clear about the difference between what I notice, what I hope for and what I can actually conclude.

I’ll be sharing the practical preparation, how it fits around family and work, what feels manageable and what I need to reconsider.

excluding the days when nothing particularly remarkable happens.

Beginning with the conditions for follow-through

My first step was to make room for this in my actual life.

To get organised. Have nourishing food available. Reduce the number of decisions I need to make when I’m tired. And remember why I wanted to begin in the first place.

I’m curious to see what I learn when this finally moves from two years of collected notes into lived experience.

If you’re interested in joining the upcoming cohort, register your interest below. I’ll share the approach, what’s included and how suitability will be assessed, so you can make an informed decision about participating.
