The New Somatic Frontier
Why and How we Are Bringing Human Design into the Fascial Matrix…
For years, Human Design has been celebrated as a psychological and energetic map. We look at our charts, intellectualise our types, and try to use our minds to navigate our strategies. But here is the missing link that is completely shifting the wellness space: your Human Design blueprint does not live in your mind it is also lives in your tissue.
There is an incredible, emerging paradigm shifting from theory into the physical body. By overlaying the esoteric wisdom of Human Design with the trauma-informed science of Myofascial Release (MFR), we are discovering a powerful truth: your fascia is the physical hardware housing your energetic software.
Welcome to the new somatic frontier.
This method bridges the gap between ancient esoteric wisdom and modern trauma-informed science. It treats your Human Design chart as a somatic roadmap, showing exactly where and how your specific body is biologically wired to store stress, trauma, and conditioning within your fascial network.
By looking at this overlap, practitioners are no longer just treating random physical tension; they are using your energetic blueprint to pinpoint and unlock chronic physical armor.
The overlap between Somatic Healing, Myofascial Release (MFR), and Human Design bodygraph charts is a cutting-edge, emerging frontier in holistic wellness often referred to as Somatic Human Design or Fascial Human Design.
What is the Fascial Matrix?
To understand this method, we have to look at fascia. Far from just a packing material for our muscles, fascia is a fluid, 3D web of connective tissue that wraps around every single muscle fiber, organ, nerve, and bone in your body.
Modern somatic science reveals that fascia acts as a secondary nervous system. It possesses its own cellular memory. When we experience emotional trauma, chronic stress, or societal conditioning, our physical bodies literally build defense shields. Your fascia contracts, hardens, and locks that energy into place—creating physical "armor."
The Overlap: Mapping the Bodygraph to Your Tissue
In Human Design, your Bodygraph shows where you have consistent, reliable energy (Defined Centers) and where you are vulnerable to taking on outside influences (Undefined or Open Centers).
When we look at the body through a Somatic Human Design lens, we can map exactly where your body is biologically wired to store its deepest physical restrictions and emotional blocks.
1. Open Centers: Where We Store Outside Energy
The white, open centers in your chart are where you act as an energetic sponge. This is where you absorb, amplify, and become conditioned by the world around you.
The Somatic Reaction: Because these areas are highly sensitive, the surrounding fascia will chronically tighten to protect you from being overwhelmed.
The Physical Manifestation: If you have an Undefined Emotional Solar Plexus, you might find yourself constantly suppressing your true feelings to keep the peace. Somatically, this locks down the fascia of your diaphragm, upper stomach, and psoas muscleliterally holding your breath to avoid conflict.
2. Defined Centers: Where We Burn Out Our Energy
Your colored-in, defined centers are your reliable powerhouses. However, if you are living "out of alignment"—forcing yourself to initiate when you should be waiting, or working against your Type—this energetic surplus bottlenecks.
The Somatic Reaction: The tissues surrounding these over-exerted centers become dense, dehydrated, and rigid from sheer exhaustion.
The Physical Manifestation: A Defined Sacral Center (found in Generators and Manifesting Generators) that is constantly saying "yes" to obligations it hates will experience an energetic backlog. This frequently manifests as deep, stubborn fascial restrictions in the pelvis, hips, and lower back.
Moving Beyond the Mind: Deconditioning the Fascia
You can read every book on Human Design, but if your physical fascia remains locked in a state of chronic defense, your nervous system will keep defaulting to old, conditioned patterns. Traditional Human Design can be overly intellectual; traditional myofascial release can be purely mechanical.
By merging the two, we target the exact areas where your specific energetic blueprint holds tension. During a session, sustainable myofascial pressure unwinds the physical tissue while your conscious mind uses the knowledge of your chart to recognise, process, and permanently let go of the behavioral armor you've carried for years.
This isn't just about relieving a tight muscle. This is about physically dissolving the conditioning that keeps you from stepping into your highest self. It is a returning home to your true, unarmoured essence.

1. The Core Philosophy: Fascia as the "Hardware"
To understand the overlap, you must understand what fascia actually is. Fascia is a 3D web of connective tissue that wraps around every muscle, organ, nerve, and bone.
The Living Matrix: Modern science shows that fascia acts as a secondary nervous system. It stores emotional memories, physical trauma, and chronic stress patterns.
The Human Design Connection: In Human Design, your Bodygraph represents your energetic and physical vehicle. The channels and centers in your chart correlate directly to endocrine glands, nerve plexuses, and physical regions of the body. Fascia is the physical architecture where these energetic frequencies are housed.
2. How the Overlap Works in Practice
When you overlay a Human Design chart with myofascial lines, you can map out why certain parts of your body chronically lock up.
A. Open (Undefined) Centers = "The Sponges" for Fascial Armoring
In Human Design, the white, open centers in your chart are where you take in and amplify the energy of the world around you. This is where your deepest psychological conditioning lives.
The Somatic Overlap: Because these areas are highly sensitive and prone to taking on "other people's stuff," the muscles and fascia surrounding these open centers will chronically contract to build a physical shield.
Example: If you have an Undefined Emotional Solar Plexus, you might constantly suppress your own feelings to keep the peace. Somatically, this frequently manifests as chronic fascial tightness in the diaphragm, stomach, and psoas muscle as your body physically holds its breath to avoid conflict.
B. Defined Centers = "The Generators" of Kinetic Tension
The colored-in centers in your chart are where you have reliable, consistent energy. However, if you are living "out of alignment" or forcing yourself to work against your type, these centers bottleneck.
The Somatic Overlap: When a defined center is over-exerted or misaligned, it creates an energetic surplus that burns out the local tissue, leading to dense, rigid fascial restrictions.
Example: If you have a Defined Sacral Center (Generator/Manifesting Generator) but are constantly doing work you hate, that vital life-force energy gets trapped. Somatically, this locks up the fascia of the pelvis, lower back, and hips, leading to chronic structural misalignment.
3. Merging the Modalities: The Emerging Method
An integrated Somatic Human Design session doesn't just talk about your chart; it physically navigates it. Here is how practitioners are beginning to use this emerging method:
Chart Assessment: The practitioner looks at your chart to identify your specific structural vulnerabilities (e.g., looking at your G-Center for chest/heart fascia, or your Root Center for adrenal/pelvic floor tension).
Targeted Myofascial Release: Instead of a generic full-body massage, the practitioner applies sustained pressure to the specific fascial restrictions that match your chart's conditioning patterns.
Somatic Tracking & Deconditioning: While the fascia is being unwound, you are guided to track the emotions rising to the surface. You use the self-knowledge of your Human Design Type and Strategy to consciously choose to let go of the behavioral patterns that caused the physical armoring in the first place.
Why this is a Game-Changer
Traditional Myofascial Release is incredible for physical relief, but if the underlying energetic and psychological pattern remains, the tissue will tighten right back up. Conversely, traditional Human Design reading can be overly intellectual.
By bringing Human Design into the fascia, you give your body permission to physically release the mental conditioning you've been carrying, shifting your chart from an intellectual concept into a deeply felt, lived reality.

How to Apply This at Home: 2 Simple Fascial Resets
Here are two basic self-myofascial exercises targeting the most common areas where energetic conditioning and physical armoring intersect.
or these exercises, you will need a soft therapy ball (like a tennis ball or a pliable massage ball).
1. The Psoas & Diaphragm Release (For Open Emotional/Splenic Centers)
If your chart has an open Emotional Solar Plexus or Splenic center, you likely store other people's anxiety or fear right in your gut and breathing muscles.
The Setup: Lie face down on a comfortable surface. Place your soft therapy ball gently under your abdomen, just below your ribcage and slightly to one side of your belly button.
The Action: Do not roll or press hard. Instead, let your entire body weight melt over the ball. Take slow, deep breaths, expanding your belly into the ball as you inhale, and letting it sink deeper as you exhale.
The Release: Stay here for 2 to 3 minutes per side. If an emotion, a sigh, or a sudden urge to yawn bubbles up, let it happen. You are physically melting the defense shield around your gut instincts.
2. The Sacral Pelvic Release (For Misaligned Defined/Undefined Sacral Centers)
Whether you have a Defined Sacral center that is completely burnt out, or an Undefined Sacral center that doesn't know when "enough is enough," stress heavily impacts the fascia around your lower back and pelvis.
The Setup: Lie on your back with your knees bent and feet flat on the floor. Lift your hips slightly and slide the therapy ball directly under one side of your glutes (the fleshy part of your buttocks, just below the back of your pelvic bone).
The Action: Rest your weight fully onto the ball. Gently and very slowly, let your knee drop out to the side, then bring it back to the center. Imagine you are slowly ironing out a piece of wrinkled fabric.
The Release: Continue this tiny, slow movement for 3 minutes, then switch to the other side. This unlocks the tight fascial anchor points of the pelvis, freeing up your literal life-force energy.
